What's In A Name?

The Breakers is a one of the most fabulo

Understatement has often been an affectation used by the very wealthy to describe their possessions—with the term “summer cottage” as perhaps the most telling example from the heady days of the Gilded Age, more than a century ago. Famous families during that era—the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Carnegies, and Astors—built lavish, elaborate “summer cottages” on Long Island and in the Hamptons, the Berkshires, and Newport, Rhode Island. And so with the launch of our first title, HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens), the tongue-in-cheek use of the word “cottage” became ingrained in our DNA. The times may have changed, but our mission has always remained the same: Deliver the finest luxury design and architecture content to residents of America’s most affluent communities”

What We Do

HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens) was launched 20 years ago, followed by CTC&G (Connecticut Cottages & Gardens) in 2004 and NYC&G (New York Cottages & Gardens) in 2012. The publications inform and inspire readers with original articles focusing on spectacular homes and gardens, architecture, and art, as well as insider takes on local real estate comings and goings and other entertaining and lifestyle pursuits. Intentionally oversize and designed to emphasize superior journalism and lush photography, the magazines meet the highest standards of global excellence while distinctly capturing a local “sense of place”.

Today our company, C&G Media Group, produces not only the aforementioned titles, but also three annual design guides in the Hamptons, New York, and Connecticut, in addition to maintaining multiple websites, including Cottagesgardens.com for insider home tours and the latest and greatest design innovations and products, dailyDeeds.com for daily celebrity and luxury real estate news, and cgIDAS.com, devoted entirely to our popular Innovation in Design Awards.

CG Events runs more than 100 events a year, including the Innovation in Design Awards (IDAs), the annual KBIS designer tour, the CTC&G Players’ Lounge and CTC&G Polo Pub at the Greenwich Polo Club, designer showhouses both regional and overseas, design salons where Design Professionals, manufacturers and editors hold intimate gatherings.

Additionally, our digital platforms are growing bigger and better daily. C&GTV creates streaming programming for events and clients, while the programmatic targeting capabilities of C&G Digital allows our advertisers to reach their customers and lead them to their brand, site, or premises. Our award winning newsletters and social media on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest further extend our reach across the world.

Our Community

From the outset, C&G Media Group has been deeply involved with its readers, followers, design professionals, and charities, and it is our mission to ensure that all these constituencies are enriched by our presence. From the HC&G Idea Houses in the early 2000s in the Hamptons to today’s London, Brooklyn, Connecticut, New York, and Hamptons showhouses, design professionals have been able to showcase their work and inspire our readers and visitors, all in the name of benefiting worthy causes. The company has also founded Iconic Cottages & Gardens to shine a spotlight on neglected buildings and properties in need of care and support, such as the Lockwood Matthews Mansion Museum in Norwalk and the Bedford Playhouse, where NYC&G’s VIP greenroom and tasting room became an integral component of the theater’s rescue and refurbishment. In Connecticut, 17 public rooms in the governor’s residence were updated by 13 designers in an initiative spearheaded by CTC&G.

And We're Most Proud Of...

A decade ago, CTC&G and Valerie Wilson Travel, along with Mitchells Stores and the WSWA (World’s Smallest Ad Agency), founded Pink Aid. To date, the organization has donated more than $10 Million dollars to the fight against breast cancer.
